Hound The Wolves / Glasghote Split

Master of Alchemy As with the Camera Obscura LP, Caceres' lyrics here discreetly continue themes of esoteric and occult spiritual knowledge, although I am unable to discern whether it is of Kabbalah or Gnosticism. Are we all prisoners held within the Black Iron Cage, the infinite monkey cage, as fashioned by the demiurge architect... are we energy entombed as matter and trapped behind the veils of celestial curtains? Some praise the demiurge (YHWH/Yaldabaoth/Saklas), and some seek the true godhead Ein Sof. Favorite track: Live Through The Day, Run Through The Night.

I fight against the tides Forging miles ahead Blood soaked in the water It's lost Across the great divide Pathway to ascend Fall before the altar It's lost It's now or never we swim to shore Naked body, naked soul We are matter We are bones Interconnected Waves of energy unfold Drop your weapons Venom drenched Servitude is not my choice We hunt for demons with empty hands Our geometric law of land Is ruled by chance Who lives forever If no one can claim godhead Repeat the mantra And cast the stone Ancient deity Her name unknown In shallow waters Roots exposed This vessel opens A hollow over tone rings cold Who lives forever if no one can claim godhead Who lives forever if no one can claim godhead I fight against the tides Forging miles ahead Blood soaked in the water It's lost Across the great divide Pathway to ascend Fall before the altar It's lost

Fire fly light breaks on through the clouds Burning the day Make the first song Sacrifice by the knife to lay by her side Listen to the sunrise while she talks And bleeds from the air Potent is the message Stay awake And live through the day But what if we're already dead? But what if we're already dead? Silver moon beams shine on through the night Leading the way Hands and feet Worn and bruised up from the chase Escape lies ahead Focus on the moon's eye while he guides Oh great Father Time Potent is the message Stay alive And run through the night But what if we're already dead? But what if we're already dead? But what if we're already dead? But what if we're already dead?

“The split brings out two different takes on post-modern heavy, with Hound the Wolves bringing a more contemplative approach to exploring desolation and Glasghote gleefully crafting that desolation through the violence of their material”

“Hound The Wolves kick off the split with two extended tracks that take the listener on a subdued heavy rock journey.“

Two Guys Metal Reviews, 7/28/2019

"The aforementioned elements further translate sonically through droned patterns; earthy and worldly rhythmic density; and meditative, cyclical repetition that make for a haunted psych-metal experience. If pressed to draw an analogy, Hound The Wolves makes for a modern-day Pink Floyd continuum."

“It's always good to get varied styles on a split - too often you get facsimile bands vying off with the same tempo and approach. Here, there is a clear divide to fend that off, and the result is two bands shining in each others company.”

Nine Hertz, 8/6/2018

“straightforward and listenable stoner/space rock act very much of the Monster Magnet school (hell, frontman/guitarist Juan Carlos Caceres even sounds a hell of a lot like Dave Wyndorf…and that’s not even reckoning with the fat heavily overdriven riffs and spacey Hawkwindesque overlays!)”

about

Hound The Wolves Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon’s Hound the Wolves liken themselves much to the climate that surrounds them - moody, mysterious and beautifully glum. Their creations are rooted in cyclical repetition and contrast, sonically transforming ritualistic practice into dark and gritty psych metal and droned stoner rock. Fans of Earth, Neurosis and U.S. Christmas now have a new band to enjoy. ... more
